Beihai park...

so today was the first day everyone in the program had free time to go out into the city...needless to say, I met tons of new people, all of whom are incredibly chill and down to explore Beijing.  Not only did we go to the most BEAUTIFUL park (Beihai Park- over a thousand years old!), we discovered an awesome -though somewhat touristy-path with a bunch of fun shops and bars....I also met these two girls, Angela and Holly, both from Cal.  We all clicked really well, so I have some official new friends! Yay!  Monday we begin our Chinese placement exams, so there probably won't be much debauchery to report on until after then...so for now, please enjoy these fantastic photos so you all can be INSANELY jealous...wish you were all here to excursion with me....

First day at the dorms!

Hey all!

Sorry I haven't posted recently, internet access has been scarce, and I just checked in to my dormitory.  I'm living on the BNU (Beijing Normal University) campus, and everyone was automatically put in doubles, meh.  Luckily,  my roommate is really chill.  She's from San Jose and goes to Cal and is fluent in Chinese-so helpful! Also, I'm two doors down from Steve-o so that's pretty convenient.  

  Yesterday me and Steve-o went to WanFuJing, which is the open air market in Beijing with all the awesome foods (and by awesome I mean ostrich heads, scorpions on a stick and dog's liver). I don't have my camera on me, but I'll upload some interesting photos when I can!

Anyway, there's not that much more to report on quite yet, but don't worry... give me a couple of days and I'll be sure to come back with stories...

I miss you guys so much ahh!

OH! and just some info for you guys on the side...   The American olympic athletes are officially staying on campus with us. Watch out Kobe!...

My First Blog!

So I'm in the Vancouver airport on my layover to Beijing, scoping out facebook, of course. (By the way, the airport here is SICK!)  With the 3 extra hours and a book to not read, I've decided to mooch off of the same blog as the wonderful Melissa Bernstein (thanks girl), and create one of my own...

...so now I've got a way to communicate to you all about how INCREDIBLE my trip is going to be. I suppose I don't have much to report on right now and this is mostly a practice blog entry, so I just wanted to say that I miss you guys all already, but I'll be keeping you all updated on my many excursions...
